Not sure about Design Science as a thread for #mtw3

I notice Will Pollard has posted on his blog about design science

He is suggesting design science as an idea that could link theory and practice. The words are used in several situations and it could be interesting to see how coherent this is.

But I am not sure design science covers all the aspects of #mtw3 . I think we should wait till later to decide how much to concentrate our focus.

But comments on design science are welcome.

Another year of the MOOC

There is continuing interest in the MOOC. I have heard a lot about them from my colleague Will Pollard. He has joined up with the OLDS MOOC and his blog mentions MoSO as a project. I can see some overlap between MoSO and #mtw3 but I think there could also be a more specific project.

Design Science is an interesting topic, mentioned by John Burgoyne in his keynote so it relates to organisation. I am not sure the MOOC discussion has yet covered the effect of technology on how education is structured. The Work Foundation considers innovation in publishing and the MOOCs will alter the context for this.

I have registered for Cloudworks so hope to keep up without doing the full course. I don't need any more badges but good luck to those who play the game. I may offer help in how to take open resources apart and create something else. This is interesting, as in how to take content from a conference and create forms of publishing.

I had to update my profile in Blogger. Anyway Google knows all about me and I am ready for the conversations around the MOOC.

Cloudworks and the MOOC, Google+

I have joined Cloudworks to get a better idea of what is going on. I noticed a lot about Futurelearn just before the holidays. There is a course about how to design a MOOC which my colleague Will Pollard has signed up for. A massively open online course. In Twinity we have chat facilities and also ways to show off video. Not sure how this fits with design but I hope to find out more.

There are several clouds on virtual worlds. Some are quite dated I think but this reflects how interest stops and starts.

The course on Moocs is making use of some Google resources so I am trying out the Google + links on this blog. Not working so far so I will have to set this up better. Please let me know if you already understand this sort of thing.

This is quite interesting and of course I hope that people from the CQI will contribute to and benefit from #mtw3 .

But living in a virtual world is quite normal and I am surprised there is not more of it. Moving objects to a new place is not that difficult and the facilities for social media are often fairly easy to use.

Reminder of conference streams diagram

I think it is worth making a new link to this post from about a year that shows the conference streams as a triangle

Quality management might be close to Practice and this seems to be where much of the interest on LinkedIn is centred. Not just on our own group but on others that we link to. But the conference is intended to include the Speculative and Emancipatory streams also.

Diagram on quality and a learning loop

I have been asked by Will Pollard to post this diagram.

This blog is a useful place for diagrams and they are not so obvious in LinkedIn. It comes from a mailing list linked to MoSO, a Deming group based at the CQI. Apparently there is more material that could be available if there was some interest. This one is by Tony Brown and clearly shows Learning within a Deming quality loop.

I am happy to post any other versions in this blog. There are several ways of describing quality management and learning.
